Who could’ve predicted that Instagram would become the web authority it has become in such a small amount of time? With over 100 Million users, as well as been recently acquired by Facebook, all things are indeed rocking at this popular photo sharing site. What’s catching interest lately though is the innovative ways people are using Instagram, and nowhere is that more evident than in, of all places, Kuwait.
The Award for Ingenuity goes to Kuwait!
As reported by Kottke.org, many enterprising Kuwaitis are using Instagram to sell almost anything you can think of. Some examples include makeup services, Manga, fashion items and sheep. Yes, that’s right, sheep. Even though you may find that selling sheep over Instagram might not work as well in the U.S., you’ve got to give these herdsmen a whole lot of credit for finding and adapting this wildly popular platform for use in their local economy. They simply find list their wares they wish to sell, attach a price to it, and wait for responses on their phone. Since there is no payment processing as yet on Instagram, these transactions take place in another fashion, but that’s hardly stopping anyone.
What lesson can we learn here?
The most obvious reminder here is that to take advantage of a popular platform’s traffic, you have to apply a bit of ingenuity and lateral thinking to the mix. While Instagram was not intended to be a sales platform, it has the facility to do so, if even mainly on a rudimentary level. What ideas can you come up with that might advance your business? Some marketers are using Instagram to promote CPA (cost per action) offers. Due to the social sharing aspect, and the huge traffic on Instagram, it was bound to happen. Others are using it to direct to squeeze pages for list building purposes.
You might want to get into it now, however, as given that this is now a Facebook property, it’s very likely change is going to be part of its future, so strike now while the iron’s hot!
